AIX was founded in 1996 by Andrej Chrastina, one of the most prominent climbers in the Czech and Slovak Republic. His inspiration came from outdoor rock climbing and his own World Cup competition experience in lead climbing and bouldering. The company started under the name a.9 — the "9" referring to the position of "CH" in the Czech alphabet. In 2003 it was renamed to AIX, where IX is the Roman numeral for 9.
We were among the first in the Czech Republic to switch from epoxy to polyester manufacturing, a transition that opened up new possibilities for shape innovation and set a new benchmark for hold quality and durability. Today we are a general supplier for World Climbing World Cups and a frequent partner of the Czech Bouldering Cup. Our products are used in gyms across more than 20 countries.
